After Sublette, we descend rather quickly out of the aspen and pines and into the high mesa of sage and juniper. The tracks go through a series of long sweeping curves so that the descent is gradual and the train wheels do not slip on the rails. The sweeping curves go back and forth over the NM/CO state line several times.
